Raspberry is one of the most popular and profitable fruit crops in the world. Traditionally, it is grown in cold temperate zones but the development of varieties with low cold need has allowed its extension in other areas of the world. This species adapts perfectly to the agro-climatic conditions of Morocco.
Optimum temperature for raspberry development :
Temperature has an important role in the development of evergreen raspberry. The optimal temperature for raspberry is around 20-22°C with a photoperiod of at least 8 hours for good production.
Recommanded soils for raspberries:
Suitable soils for raspberries are deep and well drained with a sandy to silty texture. Silty and silty-sandy soils (60-100 cm deep) generally offer the best soil conditions, provided they are well drained with an organic matter content of 2-3%. Sandy or gravelly soils may be suitable for raspberry production, provided adequate irrigation is available.
Why choose a localized irrigation system for your raspberries ?
Due to its superficial root system and its strong evapotranspiration, raspberry needs a high and regular water supply. The use of a localized irrigation system allows to control the supply of water according to the stage of development of the plant and its needs and keeps the foliage dry at all times, therefore, reduces the risk of fungal disease.
Raspberries are sensitive to salinity and should not be planted if the total salt content of the soil is more than 800 ppm. The adoption of good irrigation and fertilizer management practices prevents the accumulation of salts.
